💬  Family Stories Card Pack

...Discovering Our History, Building Our Connections

  • 99+ conversation cards to discover your family history, share stories, and build connections across generations.
  • Every family has multigenerational stories — stories about where we came from, what life was like growing up, the people who influenced us, the challenges we faced, the work we did, the places we lived, and the traditions that became part of family life. Yet in the haste of everyday life, some of our richest family stories disappear simply because nobody thought to ask.
  • The Family Stories Card Pack provides simple prompts to help open up conversations about the people and experiences that make up our wider family story.  Pick a card. Ask a question. Listen to where the story goes.

The pack includes over 99 conversation cards across six themes:

  1. Origins & Places 🌍
Discover family roots, migration stories, and places that shaped your family.
  2. School & Work 🎓
Learn about education, jobs, achievements, and opportunities across generations.
  3. Health & Life Lessons ❤️

  6. Culture, Faith & Traditions ✨

The pack also includes:

  1. Seed Cards 🌱
Not every family story is immediately known. Ask another relative, search family records, or find an old photograph that brings the story to life.
  2. My Question Cards 💭  Sometimes one story sparks another question. Create your own questions and follow the conversation wherever your curiosity takes you.
  3. Detective Cards 🕵️
Not every family story is immediately known. Ask another relative, search family records, or find an old photograph that brings the story to life.

How to Use the Cards

  • There are no complicated rules.
  • Choose a category. Pick a card. Read the question — reword it as you wish — and listen to where the story goes.
  • Allow a natural conversation to emerge. Sometimes a single question is all it takes.
  • Bring the cards to dinner with grandparents, take them on a holiday, pull them out at a family gathering, or take a few cards when visiting a relative.

Why Family Stories Matter

Connecting Across Generations

An important aspect of the Family Stories cards is the opportunity for one generation to become curious about another. Families take many forms. The cards can be used across adoptive families and across families where parents are separated, providing opportunities to explore the stories and relationships that make up each person’s wider family.

A younger family member might ask a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or other relative about their childhood, challenges, memories, or the generations that came before them. The younger person becomes the curious interviewer and listener — discovering that the adults around them have histories of their own and that they are one small but important part of a much bigger family story.

Widening the Family Lens

The Family Stories cards aren't simply about collecting information about ancestors. They provide a way to widen the family lens — shifting from focusing on the individual to seeing the rich stories of family systems that have come before.

Simple questions. Natural conversations. Stories across generations.
